I know I’ve been posting a lot lately but I’m new to this duck thing 🤭 I took a couple pictures of my ducks and I’ve been noticing about three of them have a huge sack under them, I’ve been reading it could either mean they’re ready to lay or they’re egg bound, they were hatched in the fall so this would be their first year laying and I haven’t received any eggs from them yet I have 7 female ducks. Three of them have huge bellies that drag and some of the other ones are starting to get normal looking bellies. I have them crushed egg shells yesterday and today I gave them crushed up calcium supplements+vitaminD (made from oyster shells) since that’s what I had on hand I’ve also added niacin to their water. All this to help them lay in case they are eggbound.

My Cayuga black duck has it the worst 🥺her name is Biggie( we named her before we knew she was a girl) she’s also kind of skinny but I’m not sure if that’s related because our other two black and white ducks are meaty and they also have a belly that drags to the ground.

Thank you!! So large bellies are normal in ducks?
I'm not seeing anything in these duck pictures that looks like a large belly to me. Maybe the 1st photo but it doesn't look concerning. I have runners now which are slighter in stature but I've had larger breeds in the past and they definitely were more well endowed in that way.

You're welcome.
I'm sure some other members will chime in with their opinions if you give it some more time. ☺️
Actually we have a few that look like your first one, I have just been assuming it was as you said, maybe they was going to start laying soon. We got ours back last fall as well, and are not laying yet that I am aware. Well, today I was thinking one may have as I got 4 big eggs instead of the 3 big ones we have been getting.
