Went to a poultry swap a couple of months ago and I see this very pretty - what I assume - is a Blue Splash Cochin rooster. Looked like one to me, anyway. I look him over, he looks healthy, I inquire about him. "Is this a Blue Splash Cochin"?, I ask. The woman says "No, he's a Blue Merle". "Blue Merle?" I reply, while I'm thinking to myself, OK, I have never heard of a blue merle. I know there is blue merle coloring in Aussies and other dogs, etc - but in poultry??? HMmm. Ok I don't profess to know everything about breeds so I thought maybe it was a color I wasn't familiar with, all the while still thinking that I was pretty sure he was a "splash". So I liked him anyway, brought him home, he's a nice guy and I'm very happy with him. Looked up "blue merle " in poultry on line and could find zero, zip, nothing about blue merle coloring in poultry. So tell me, experts- - every hear of blue merle coloring in poultry?

That's strange....I'm no expert but I have been doing a lot of research and have never come across blue merle. Sounds like the lady's trrying to cheat you.

Yes, I think she was trying to pull the feathers over my eyes, but like I said, I was almost certain he was a Blue Splash Cochin ( I was looking for a cochin roo there) so I don't feel cheated. I have had many a cochin. They are one of my favorite breeds. He's a lovely bird. Actually, I feel like she is the uneducated one here.

LOL

She has her chickens and her dogs mixed up!
