Just have to tell someone about today. Hope you all don't mind. Today started with a disheartening, maddening, disgusting sight: Just in front of me a pickup swerved to hit a turkey running as fast as she could across the road. She was running with what I assumed was her family. I saw them, slowed, and thought the pickup would slow or stop. It was shocking to imagine what he would do. I was so outraged, dismayed, and disgusted. I do not understand this! The driver sped away fast, and I slowed to see if the turkey was alive. Just a horrible event.

Then I found I was fired after being told that if I don't give "my native friend" a stake in our family business, he would fire me. I am fired.

But on the rez, there's nothing I can do, but walk away.
Finally, the icing on the cake was tonight on the way home after picking up a few groceries I was hit and totalled my van.

I am thankful that no one was hurt, my family loves me, and my chickens are truly my therapy.
Sorry for this long post, but besides my hens and roo I find this board comforting. Such good people here. I appreciate everyone of you.

Oh bj.....you pooor thing! I have to say...people that will INTENTIONALLY hit an animal...wild or not...is as low on the food chain as possible. I just dont understand thier thinking. I am assuming the turkey did not make it. Was you able to get a liscence plate number?
Then you lost your job?? I dont quite understand how that happened....jeesh! And you totalled your van?? O M G ! You and your family are in my prayers. Chicken therapy is DEFINATELY in order here....grab your friendliest hen, and a good drink, ( coffee, soda, tea..or whatever) and just relax. Im so sorry you had such a terrible day!

Wow! I hope tomorrow is better for you. I know how days like that feel. Truly horrible.

I would never intentionally hit an animal, but I also rarely swerve to avoid them. I slow, but I would rather hit a squirrell or chipmunk than crash my car on those backwoods, winding roads. In defensive driving we were taught that the habit of swerving for small animals like that is not a good habit to get into. I've only ever hit one squirrell and I felt terrible, but there was no where for me to go to avoid him! I couldn't imagine hitting a turkey! They are considerably bigger than squirrells. Oh yeah, once I almost hit a cow. That was scarey!

There is some other better job coming your way and you need to be free and ready to go to it. I use to brake when an animal ran across the road. my dh tells me to never to do that, I could be rear-ended or worse! he tells me to never, ever swerve to hit a deer as then I will be wrecked or worse and insurance will have a hay day with me since the deer got away and I have no proof. I do slow down and pray when a small animal runs across my path and I pray all the time a deer won't run out in front of me as I know I will instinctively swerve! My dh tries so hard not to hit even little turtles crossing the road but we have to watch out so we don't cause someone else to wreck. I hope this is coming across right?

Sorry you had such a rotten day. If your friend and his buddies are so unethical that they fire you over something like trying to keep a family business in the family, be glad you dodged that bullet. May your business thrive, your insurance offer full coverage, and a new job be forthcoming.

About they guy and the turkey, what goes around comes around. I'm very sorry you had to see it. I think we all have witness that sort of thing, and for anyone who loves animals it is awful.

Bless your heart!
What an awful day!!

Sounds like the turkey getting hit was an omen for you getting hit later. Full moon last night, so today will be a crazy day, too. Stay home, rest up, and love on your family and chickens.

Keep your eyes and ears open because good things WILL come your way. You just have to watch for them: sometimes good opportunities sneak by very quietly. I know good things will come you way because you have a community of BYC folks sending good thoughts and prayers your way!!

You sure had a horrible day!! So sorry for your troubles. Hope today is better....couldn't get worse

Glad everyone is ok. Do something nice for yourself today!

I'm sorry you had such a bad day. I had one just like that, well not as bad, a couple of weeks ago.

I don't quite understand this part:
Then I found I was fired after being told that if I don't give "my native friend" a stake in our family business, he would fire me. I am fired. But on the rez, there's nothing I can do, but walk away.
