it is terribly stinky and i scorched my pan last night steamin corn and p stinky u!!!
oh the poor mummy.... to have to deal with this on top of everything.... sigh.... but all i got was the bottom half.... now we need to see his upper half... ha ha ha.
and you poor preggy mommy.... what an awful experience. It must have been terrifying and now stinky.
My friend up the hill, lightening struck a tree next to the house, traveled inside and caught the electric box on fire and did a slow burn. The husband was out in the barn milking cattle and she was out doing errands with her 3 kids. By the time a passerby friend noticed.... it was too late to save their little dog and their hamsters. She came home to a burning home, the fire engines, and a crowd of people gazing at her home burning.... it was a complete loss. She checked in with her husband and then she and the kids turned around and went clothes shopping. His parents live in the house right next to them so they had a place to stay but then they ended up coming down the hill and renting out the home next to me while their house was re-built.
I was one of the friends that took a spiral and pen and tried to decipher what was in a closet and write it all down for the insurance company. It was games, cd's, and odds and ends.... it was just all melted blobs. The kitchen and dining rooms were mostly smoke damaged. The dining room is where she and her kids would sit and read and study the Bible... under the table is where they found their little doggy, she said it looked like he was just sleeping...untouched. Kids from the school gathered money together for them to be able to buy another dog like that since they have allergies and had to have a special breed.
Some of the firefighters dropped to their knees when they came into the house after the fire and saw on the wall in a room that was black... a yellow parchment paper was tacked to the wall and it was one of the Psalms on it... it's edges were blackened but it was still there, in tact...where everything else was destroyed.
On her piano were her ceramic figurines and all of them had exploded with the intense heat...except for one... an angel holding a lamb. She kept that one and sent it off to the fire/water damage co. to clean.
They are rebuilt now and their new home is beautiful and they got to design their own floor plan... they salvaged what they could but photos were few... special momentos.... the things that hold warm memories.... burnt up and made to dust.
We talked after that a lot since she was just next door. We talked about all the "cr@p" we accumulate and how most of it is junk and not needed. We talked about the ways that God and his love was showing up in their lives with the events that happened and continued to happen. Community members and friends and family rallied together.... bags of clothes were dropped off, meals were dropped off, money was gifted to help them through that time.
It really was something incredibly sad but such a testimony to His presence and undeniably powerful. Material things shall burn away and will not last this worldly lifetime but the presence of God, Our Father Almighty shall endure and be the one thing that stands after the fire has cleared. And things like this renew our sense of love in the people we so adore and cherish and all becomes unimportant except for life.
Looks like you won't get just a new dishwasher, but new set of dishes, and a counter top and cabinets too. That pressed wood stuff is too porous and just needs to be ripped out and replaced...and I know some insurance companies will try to tell people things can be cleaned.
They did this on my mom when her basement flooded from a faulty water softner and they hired a company to run the fans.... but then mom started to cough and wheeze because it got so musky and started to mildew so I raised my hackles and the carpet people took a sample of the carpet for me and it indeed came back that it was damaged beyond repair (because duh, a water softener has SALT and salt deteriorates the backing of the carpet was one of the reasons). Thank God for an honest carpet company. So mom got her carpet replaced and part of her drywall. Shame on those insurance companies trying to save a buck... they put my mom's health at risk.
Be diligent in this Robin. Don't let them try to get away with things, ok?
Take care and this soon shall come to pass.
