Hmm, I dont have a rooster and Ive had these hens for a few months now.
So if it is fertilized that is really weird.

The font is cretino (from photobucket)

Great picture! Since moving out in the country setting, I've been buying local eggs. Now, we have no desire for the store bought, won't eat em! I can't say I've ever seen one that orange though. That looks like one nutritious egg, are they all that color? What do you feed your birds?

All 3 of my girls egg's have that deep organge yolk.
I just feed them layer feed in the morning and the rest of the day they free range in the yard.
Plus they get scraps every now and then
These are the first backyard eggs Ive ever had, so I had no idea what they are suppose to look like. I just knew they are more organgish then store eggs. I thought all looked like mine

It must be the free ranging that makes your eggs so tasty looking, the eggs I buy locally are from a flock of run kept RIR's. Since I don't think I'll be able to allow my birds to free range because of the hawks, I'll throw them a lot of the leafy greens from the garden and hopefully they will give me some of those beautiful orange delicious looking yolks. Can you tell I really like eggs?

BTW, what kind of birds do you have?

Congratulations on your first eggs, you are obviously feeding them a good diet

Nice pic!

At some point I'd love to get a photo comparison of a normal store bought egg, a "cage free" store bought egg, a backyard fresh egg from a hen raised simply in a dirt run, and a backyard fresh egg from a free ranged hen (on more than just grass)

The orangey yolk is what my eggs have but it costs me dearly.I have to go out of town for Purina layena and pay $6.00 exta or more for it.I take the taste of my eggs seriously.lol

Last month I bought some fertitle EE eggs to put under a broody.I set 1 doz. of the 2 doz. I bought. I cracked open an egg to see the yolk color of the eggs I bought and it was that sickly pale yellow. That guy buys really cheap chicken feed and it shows in the yolk color.IMO
I will say those eggs had a very hard shell so hope mine hatch okay.

Hmm, I thought all our chicken's eggs would have been that nice and orange. Mine are, but the don't free range a whole lot. We do give them a lot of our extra food though, so maybe that helps.

AMAZING the difference between ours and a store bought right?? I can't even eat at a restaurant anymore because they're nasty to me! You should try this once, I thought it was funny when I did it - see if you can pick up your yolk without it breaking. If you try with a store bought one it breaks right away, but with ours (even the ducks and turkeys!) you can pick up the yolk and even poke at it LOL Yum. Now I'm hungry!
