What a gold mine i found in my run

Wow! Congratulations! Sure makes me wish I had a tiller......

Now, don't you think that since the girls worked so hard for so long to make that black gold for you that you should spend the money on them? Maybe a color tv for the coop for those long winter nights..........

Well, i pretty much put anything that was headed for the compost piles or stuff to give them something to scracth in... especially during the rainy winter months... My neighbor and i would collect pine needles and dump them in there once or twice a year... leaves, fruit that dropped, all my lawn clipping when the compost piles were full and i use the deep litter method in the coop so i dumped that in there a couple of times over the years as the compost piles were full and the garden didn't need it.didn't really till anything until yesterday.... I have 15 lovely hens in there. I let them free range in the yard about 1/2 the time.

I'm with your husband though, I may just run a couple of compost piles and dump all the other stuff straight into the run year round... Boy these girls just keep finding new ways to give.... the other pets out here better step it up

Norm, that's excellent!

I'll tell you a little secret since you're a neighbor of mine: There was a lady here in the Bay Area who would sell compost by the bucket which was full of worms. She listed it as "compost worm starters" or as "worms / compost for your garden". She took a few close up pics of the rich soil with the worms and posted it on Craigslist. She literally got $15 a bucket for the stuff!

Nah Becky then they'd probably become all fat and lazy.... LOL..... But I will be adding a solar powered roof turbine for those hot summer days. Saw one of those on the internet and thought it would be nice to have something like that and bam a couple of weeks later the ladies provide a way to pay for it... I'm telling you everyone had better step up with reasons to keep them around as I see it now the ladies are the only ones pulling their weight.... DS and DD I’m just writing checks to colleges for them... the dog (precious) just eats and poops... well I guess she provides some security (Neapolitan Mastiff), the rabbits and parrots.... hmmm and the DW... well I better leave that one alone..lol....

I'll keep an eye out! Make sure your chooks don't get to all the worms first though... I think that's what made people so anxious to buy her stuff at such a high price.

Check out this pic I took of my compost bin:

When we first moved in, our compost heap was overflowing. Now that we have the girls, Obelisk keeps it nice and turned. I put the poop in the compost and let it mellow. I probably could get some$$ out of it too.

Wow, that's awesome! I've discovered that we have the best compost potting soil stuff ever, from our chickens constantly turning our compost pile, and pooping in it, of course, over the past couple of years.
