What a huge difference between the two now! (SLW & GLW)

Newchick I do think she is nice....and will be a great layer for you. Not all chickens lay so well when they do meet the Standard as I have found out over the past couple years. And like Speckledhen said, there are more reasons to have and raise chickens than showing. I think all strains or bloodlines have different qualities to them. And even within each breed. I know from my experience in raising a show quality animal that you have to work hard to balance those out and even then some are just different than others. And sometimes raising for show is a real headache. I do sell a lot of stock from my show line (cavies) as pets because not everyone can be that Standard of Perfection.

Enjoy your hatchery Wyandottes.

Maybe we need to add something in the title of this forum about us production chicken keepers.

I think you have a great attitude towards this! And, yes, as you say she's an example of pet quality - and I think it's great that there is a picture on here where it's accepted that that is what she is. People that are new to the breed can learn a lot from seing this

And as you say, they will lay just as well, pet quality or not!

I do not show, but I am trying to breed towards the standard. I keep every pullet hatched, but won't breed any who are off in type or colour - but they do just as well as layers

We don't have hatcheries either (in Norway, btw) but that doesn't mean every breeder you come across will be as dedicated to breeding towards standard as you would wish.
