Hi Everyone,

I'm Lou, and I'm from Coffs Harbour in northern NSW. I have kept chickens a lot, and grew up with parents who bred chickens and ducks for market. However, I'm a great believer in there always being something to learn.

I currently don't have chooks, as I've retired, and have a little motor home that I tootle off in now and then. It was easier not to have chooks at this time. However, when I am no longer travelling, that will be the first thing on the list.

I have recently heard about the Scots Dumpy chickens. I actually read about them in Diana Gabaldons new book in her Outlander series. They look absolutely beautiful and I see that someone on here has recently bought some. How readily available are they? And being from Scotland, do they prefer a cooler climate?

Looking forward to being a member of this group.

Cheers,
Lou Power.

So glad you could join our community! I have no idea what breed these birds are! Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

There will be others stopping by here to welcome you to BYC and maybe they know what breed you are talking about here.

Make yourself at home and welcome to our flock!

Thanks Michael,

I will keep searching - I doubt actually that they would thrive here in the heat and humidity. I will check out the UK site though - they may know of breeders here in Aus.

Cheers,
Lou.

G'day you may want to post your questions at "Australia, six states and one funny little island, just in case some are available to you. I have never heard of that breed, would sure like to see a photo of one. Good luck in your search and welcome to backyard chickens.
