Do you think that might make a nice size Broiler??

After doing some more looking, I found out that the "Rare free chick" that McMurray inculed with my last shipment in the spring, was not in fact a Barred Rock like I thought but a Dominique.

So now I'm curious what I might get if I cross him with my Black Australorp hens. The Dominique in a fairly large Roo.

Any ideas?

I don't know but I have a dominique x barred rock mixed chick and I have some black australorp chicks and I was wondering about a mix like that as well.

Doms are wonderful birds, and were once a popular meat bird. 'Lorps are on the lightweight side, though. I like them as layers and brooders, but they don't have a lot of meat. They'd still be tasty, of course, but you may want to consider some heavier hens to breed from. Dom roo's probably a decent choice, though! Good luck, and let us know how it works out.
