What about an egg swap????

I'd be very interested in this too. As long as everyone understands that they may pull the short straw and either not get eggs as promised or get unfertile or old eggs. Most of us would never do something like this but accidents happen and some people don't have much integrity. If that was understood, and people would not be allowed to start posts gripping that joe never sent his end of the bargin. Any disputes would have to be done off the board or in private. Maybe we could have one post to thank the people that did send and talk about what we got. Three eggs might be to few, all are not going to hatch and people would like to get a pair so they can continue the line. I don't think postage would cost much more to send maybe six. Hey its a $10 gamble, but it could be fun, and I think most people are pretty straight up. As long as everyone understands that no termoil gets brought on the boad I hope Nifty says OK. It would be a great way for us newbe's to expand our horizons.
If we do get some people that were willing to cheat, they would be to embarassed to come back on the board. So we would get rid of some deadbeats. I'm not saying that it dosn't happen, but I've not seen any scamming going on, and people buy and sell eggs here daily.
I hope this works out. I'd even enter more than once if possible. Maybe make it so after someone sends they can join in again.

On another board about another item we had a post called the person below me. The way it worked was Some one would post "I have 6 BO eggs." The next guys would post I'll take those and I have 6 Rose Comb Rhode Island Red eggs" The next poster would take those and offer something else. You could post pictures of the parents if you wanted to. It worked really nicely. Some people didn't get their stuff, but that was few and far between. And that was a much less genteal (sp) crowd there than here.

Ok, if this is a go, I think we'll have to start a new thread of everyone just listing their names, what they want, and what they have to swap, I think that will be easier than trying to wade through bits of converstation.

I'm willing to match everyone with someone else depending on their needs/wants/etc.

I have bantams to trade, no standards.

I think we should all try to send six eggs, hatching rates being what they are, with only three eggs, I'd be afraid of no chicks or an only lonely chick.

I think we should make the cutoff for joining the list February 14th, that will give me a week or so for matching everyone, then the cutoff for sending eggs could be March 1st.

What do you think?

I think an egg swap is a fun idea.

But, at this time, I cannot comit to the swap, most of my birds are not laying and to guess when they will start and if I can get fertility checked first...I may not be able to follow through by March 1st.

If you were to push it back till sometime in April, alot more people would be able to participate and the door would open for alot more egg variety...ducks, guineas, turkeys, pheasant, etc...just a thought.

Is it possible for once people are partnered up they can decide how many eggs they want to swap. That way those that can or want to swap 12+ eggs can?
I am a more is better kinda person!

Ok, I have another idea:

For the people that can only have certain things, we'll do it RepoBob's way- someone lists what they have, somebody else says I'll take it an lists what they have. The problem with that is that the first person doesn't get anything. But as long as somebody volunteers to go first, there shouldn't be any issues.

For everybody else, we can do this once a month, we'll say the cutoff for entering will be the 15th of every month, then eggs are due to go out by the 1st of the next month. Throughout the year everyone can play when they want to and it will be a "surprise" with a set number of eggs. Placing value on the eggs is hard, since the parent stock may be one thing and the chicks could be another.

We can have multiple lists, for set numbers of eggs and for purebreds, mutts, ducks, etc

More suggestions please. Even though this may not actually happen, we should fine-tune it so it's ready if it does get approved.

It sounds like you all have great ideas.

I, personally, already had trades set up with two people on this board. Once my hens start laying again, and I send/get eggs from those other trades, then I would be willing to join this trade too

OK, this is what we do at the other board. Everyone signs up and says what they CAN NOT take. Then who ever starts the swap will put names in a hat and pull them out and asign partners. This list is then posted so that the parnters can contact each other. At that point it is discussed between them on the number of eggs and value that will be traded. Then a few weeks later a thread is started to tell everyone what you got and to thank your partner. This works great there. We are just finishing a swap right now. It does seem that one person might not get anything form her partner but usually if that happens someone is allways willing to send a little something to that person so that they dont get hung out to dry. This works great over there and I think it could work well here. If they dont want an official swap I am always up for swapping. Check out my website and send me a message. Jenn

Has NiftyChicken given his OK?

this could be done on a monthly basis.
Make the cutoff the 14th of every month and send and get your eggs around the first of the next month. That way everyone who compleeted their deal properly would be eligable for the next month. If your having a problem sending you would not be able to participate again til that problem was resolved. KS, Please don't think I'm volunteering you to do the paperwork every month. If the paperwork becomes to much or real life gets in the way I'm sure someone else could take over. You are very gracious to do this the first time, thanks. Maybe it would be a good idea do to one to end by 2/15 eggs shipped 3/1 kinda as a practice. Then the bugs would be worked out by 4/1 so as Mother suggested we'd be ready for other breeds. I think this could be a really great thing. I excited about it. You could get new chicks every month of the year, whats better than that?

Repobob, if this gets approved, we could switch off, or, if someone else wants to pitch in too, we could do rotations, that way nobody gets left out, or burned out for that matter.

Or, everybody could volunteer to oversee one list.

Hope we aren't getting the cart in front of the horse here
