What about black bears?

Do they tend to go after the birds? I would assume they do, even if it's just for the feed. TIA
 
They are more interested in the feed. Chickens are fast and too much work for them to bother with. They are capable of catching them but they really don't like to waste their energy on catching things. They can really do some damage to your coop though trying to access the feed.
 
Black bears are omnivorous in the true sense of the word. They will eat almost anything that lives, once lived or may yet live.

I would worry more about the damage they would do to my coop trying to get the feed, rather than the bear harming my chickens... We have them here, and they are more afraid of us than us of them (unless it's a mom with cubs... Then you want to be careful)...
