My husband and I are going to be ordering very soon, 100 meat (cornish rock crosses) birds. His parents, 3 brothers (& their families) and our friends are going into it together. My question is this. Since they will be separated from my other chickens, what size area will they need. I don't want to go elabrate because we will probably only be doing this once a year and I don't want something that's going to be in the way for the other 10 months of the year. Is there a simple set-up that any of you guys have that works and doesn't cost a small fortune? How much shelter will they require since they will be growing during some of the hottest parts of summer. Thanks in advance!

Well with Cornish Rock Giants (and a 100 mind you) you will need a nice size building as they don't roost. I had 60 last year in a 8 X 8 Grainery with a large fence around it with some trees for shade. If it's hot where you are at you better have lots of water on hand. I had a 45 Gallon drum with a large water trough equiped with a float valve. They will consume alot of water and with all the fat they get very hot easy. Have some shade for them from the hot sun.

Sorry if this is too personal, but i have never raised meat chickens. But if you have that many chicks, r u going to kill them all at once? if so are they going into storage or what?
