I have a 13 week old bantam cochin who started squatting this week. She is tiny. And i think its to early for her to lay even at 15 weeks.
So im wondering when did your bantam cochins start laying?

Did you find out? I have a 14 weeks and she's not laying yet but squatting (I think).
But I read they lay when they are between 9 months to a year. So we have a while to go.. hopefully she will start laying by January and maybe hatch a few babies in the spring.

No i didnt find out, no eggs yet. I saw on anothet thread that some were alying by 6 months so maybe?
My 2 birchen cochin bantams are reddening, especially the one who was squatting.
Im definitely not in a rush for them to lay.

I have had 4 Cochin bantam hens and all started laying anywhere between 18-22 weeks.
Ok great. How big are the eggs? What color are the eggs? Do they go broody? Can they sit on eggs and raise babies?

Let's keep our fingers crossed for beginning of October. I have a pair of white bantam cochin I'll like to get a few babies from.

The eggs are a light creamy tan color and here is one pictured next to my welsummer’s egg for size difference. Yes they do go broody and yes they can brood chicks on their own. I would only let them brood 5-6 bantam eggs or 2-3 larger chicken eggs to make sure they can cover them all. Mine wanted to brood all of the eggs so I marked the ones I wanted them to hatch otherwise they would steal eggs from other chickens and I didn’t want random hatch dates lol

I love this color egg. I don't have anything like that. Yes, I was thinking about letting her hatch 6 in hope to get maybe 2 rooster and 2 hens. I have friends asking for sets of my white fluff balls.
Can't wait 😁

That color will atleast make it easier to tell from my other chickens, if they lay that color.
Im hoping for eggs soon
I dont have a rooster and cant have one so im not worried about them randomly hatching.
I may need a broody next spring though😅
