what age do roosters start crowing?

I have the same problem ~ Bug my bantam Cochin started crowing at 4 weeks and hasn't stopped! My EE and Ameraucana roo both started crowing around 17 to 18 weeks and crow a lot less than the bantam although they are louder.

I have a new roo out in the yard learning to crow to compete with my other roosters. So funny! Carl belts out his manly, dominant roo crow, then the 2 Sebright boys crow back (or at each other) at a slightly higher key, then Nugget, a bantam cochin throws out his getting-better crow, and now one of the two Olive Egger roos youngsters is kazooing his first crowing syllables: ERRRR errrrrrrrrr.

Most of the boys started around 12 to 16 weeks. The Olive Egger is 12 weeks old (I think).

My Cyril rooster - a SLW - started last Friday (at just under 17 weeks) and was about every other day until this Wednesday. Now he crows every morning just before dawn, but that's it for the day. I'm looking forward to when he starts mating and I hear more crowing through the day. I just love that sound.

My BR roo Dave began at 13 weeks. I had to cull him last week due to an illness, and I miss hearing him. I have a 17 week old Lavender Orpington and an 11 week old Jersey Giant, neither have attempted a crow yet.

My BR rooster began crowing around 15-16 weeks, but 17 week he was fertilizing eggs. In fact by the time he was 21 weeks, I hatched some of his first chicks.

I would say if you see him mating with the hens, check for fertility!

My banty roo started at 5 weeks, his brother not until 3 months. Other roos I've had not until 6 mos...

I think it depends on the boy!
