what age do roosters start crowing?

Our SLW rooster (long since consumed) started crowing at about 12 weeks. At first, he sounded like a big-rig slamming on his brakes, but eventually worked out a pretty decent 3-note crowing sound.

A Young Roo can start crowing at anywhere from 3 weeks old to 20 weeks old.

I have had Roos on both ends of that time frame. My bantam dutch are really early. I had a bantam cochin "squeeking with intention" at 3 weeks old. On the other end I had a standard Cochin that first started trying at 18 weeks old. He was the dominant Roo in that bunch. His little brother didn't start till I sold the other.

Roo Roo is a BA. He didn't crow until about 16-17wks. I'd have to look on the calendar. I heard a rooster one evening and thought it was him, but it was a neighbor's that I didn't know had chickens. He is making up for lost time though, and now can easily crow 25-30 times in a row!!

I was going to ask the same question. I have a blue andalusian cockerel that is 13 weeks old and he hasn't started crowing yet.

My EE started at 10 weeks but one of the BCMs crowed at 5 wks (or tried to).

Lindy my Barred Rock roo started at 4 weeks but was like a screeching sound. Penguin his hatchmate just started but doesnt crow very often because Lindy is the alpha. Jet a black australorp that just went to his new home started at about 3 weeks. Just didnt do it very much. I have a Delaware roo thats 6 weeks havent heard a peep out of him. Know anyone that needs a Dellie roo?

I had the first pathetic attempt at a crow at 10 weeks from my RIR. He started crowing regularly at 12 weeks. He didn't sound pleasant until 16 weeks. Takes a while for them to work out the kinks in the vocal modulation.

Here is our Apolonia, a BA...now called Apollo. He is 9.5 weeks old here. Unfortunately, we had to find him a new home.
