What age do Silkies start laying?

Hi, almost all my chickens are laying now! Except for my silkies. No sign of it yet. How old are they generally when they start laying? Are they late maturers?

It depends on the lines of your silkie. Many of the show quality or better quality birds won't lay till they are 7 if not 8 months old. Now I have pet quality hatchery stock... they lay between 5-6 months old.

I've heard more than one person say theirs began laying after nine months old.

The soonest one of mine laid was 5 1/2 months the latest was 11 months.
BUT ON AVERAGE BETWEEN 7/9 MONTHS.

Mine were close to 9 months, but now they are little laying machines!
