I'm aware they're terrible layers but knew they tended to start laying as late as 30 weeks - roughly what age do they lay?

There doesn't seem to be a definite answer to this question. Some people say their Silkies have started laying aged 4-5 months and others were still waiting for eggs from 9 month old pullets! The average seems to be 7-8 months, but I think it depends on the quality of the bird and her diet, living arrangements etc as well. If she's relaxed, well fed and happy she will hopefully reward your patience soon.
