My baby chick is 3 weeks old today. He is still in a separate house and coop with his/her mum a silkie cross. They are right next to the coop where they will eventually live in with 2 docile hens and 2 ducks. When can I put mum back in coop and will baby be alright by itself until old enough to join the others and at what age ????
Any advice gratefully received Beryl

Hm, I'd never leave a chicken of any age by itself if I could avoid it. They're flock creatures. If I had that situation, and the mom and chick are getting along fine, I'd leave the two of them together until the chick is big enough to join the flock with the hen.

Agreed, leave the chick with mama they wil be happier and it will make the intergration later more successful!

Thank you all very much for the advice. Somehow I guessed that is what the answer would be but just needed it confirmed by the good people of this forum. Mum and baby will stay together and I will put them back when the time is right. Which Is ???? what do you suggest ??? How old should baby be ??
