what age for roost in brooder* update pg 2,that did not go well, help!

They will get over it...just keep handling them, talking to them and give them tiny treats.

My NHR and SLW attacked the limb the first time and the other 4 ran screaching away from it. The next day they were all sitting on it.

I did find that the bigger the beter if you are using round or a natural limb. Their feet prefer roosting on something flat so they can sit down on their feet.

Thanks everyone. This morning they are still a little freaked but they all ran up to my hand this morning to eat their starter out of it. For some reason it is better out of moms hand than out of the feeder! I think I will give them a break today and put the roost back in tomorrow with the offering of their yogurt and see how that goes.

First of all, take the chicks out when you are doing things in the brooder. Here is what I made for my chicks. I used dial rods, and poked holes in the side of the box and slid the rods thru.

Well, now I know why they're called "chickens". I just now put in a large stick that I found outside and they all ran to the end of the large box and cowered there. I picked them up one at a time and put them on the roost. None of them stayed on very long, but I think that they're beginning to get used to the "thing/whatever" that came into their environment.

Thanks everyone! Taking them out is a great idea, why did I not think of that?? They all love me again today so I am happy. Now big bad Mommy has to get a perch in there at some point!
