At what age can you start introducing treats like tomatos, strawberries, oats etc. I have 4, 7 week old chicks and would like to start giving them fresh veggies etc.

the first treats I gave my babies were cut up worms from the garden. They were fully feathered by then - and I don't remember how old they were. You may try a very small amount of yogurt or oatmeal as a first treat. I wouldn't start with watery fruits and vegetables yet, but you can give small amounts of other stuff.

Once I ran out of chick starter right before a big batch of chicks was due to hatch, I fed them scrambled/boiled egg for a couple of days. Did great. I feed treats to them as day old. Only certain things such as scrambled, and boiled eggs and sometimes greens.

My chicks were about 3 weeks old when I gave then their first treat - cut up fried chicken! They gobbled it right down.  But like Gallo del Cielo, said, make sure they have some grit.

Chickens are not vegetarians. Ever see a chicken go after, catch & eat a mouse - or a snake? Bugs, worms, insects are meat.

Which is why I find the whole "fed an all natural VEGETARIAN diet" claims that are the new thing with poultry producers (big retail) so funny
