I have seen a lot of posts on here regarding when hens start laying? And, I know that they are born with a finite number of eggs, and their production decreases when they are older.

But, is there an age when there production reaches a peak?

I have 9 buff orpington hens that started laying at the end of August pretty darn close to 5 months old. We are now getting 30-36 eggs per week, around 4 per hen per week.

Will they lay more eggs next spring when they are 1 year old? Or, will they back off to 3 eggs per week.

Don't get me wrong, I certianly don't need any more eggs, I'm just curious as to how that works.

From what I understand they lay best there "first season" laying.... I would think the first year would be the best !!!
