At what age has your rooster crowed? Roo Dude is 15 weeks old this Wednesday and nary a sound. He is sure bigger than the girls and very nice but "roostery".

He does jump at the girls but they jump right back at him. In fact, they jump at each other sometimes when they are first let out in the morning.

He has not tried to do the "deed" yet either.

Thanks,
Ellie

It varies from breed to breed some mature faster than others. Most of mine started crowing between 16-18 week and I had a couple that didn't crow until 6 months, and a couple that never crowed.

Wow, I had no idea. I thought they all did.

Roo Dude is a buff orpington.

P.S. Moderators, if this should have been in chicken behaviours, please move... I wasn't sure.

The earliest crow ever was five days...yes, DAYS, old and an Ameraucana. The latest I've ever had here was 14 weeks old...that early crower's daddy!

My GLW started (trying) to crow when he was 7 weeks old! He's still trying to improve, five weeks later!

Gumbo my Buff Rock did not crow until he was al least 7 months. I had everyone on this board guessing his sex because I was so concerned. Now, he crows like a champ. He hears roos off in the distance and answers them. Can yours hear any other roos? I love to hear a rooster crow.

YES! There is a rooster or two next door so to speak! I hear him all the time. Maybe Roo Dude will get the message sooner because of that.

I can't wait for roosters crowing and hens laying. Hey, isn't that a Christmas song?

I have a cross breed that is seven months old that has not crowed yet. He is a game rooster laying hen cross. He is pretty gritty but just has not crowed yet.
