What age was your pullet when she laid her first egg?

My absolute earliest was 16 weeks, but if I have a flock of ten pullets, I expect the first egg around 18 to 20 weeks. By around 23 to 24 weeks, I expect about half to be laying. All should be laying around 27 to 28 weeks, but I have had some that went a lot longer. These were all dual purpose chickens.

If you only have one or two pullets, who knows. The larger the flock, the more the averages mean.

My ladies started this week all are about 17 weeks old 4 WLHs 3 BSLs 2 GSLs and 4 Arucannas I ve got 3 white eggs in 2 days from wlhs and one brown from the sexlinks dont know about today not home yet........laying at differant times Early to late afternoon .........the wait was long but glad they have finally started

So in this thread, there's a New Hampshire Red that started laying at 12 weeks and another at 16 weeks. My NHR is 20 1/2 weeks - and still no egg. Just my luck, to have the slow chickens!

Can you believe that I have a Blue and a Black Orpington that are 29 weeks today and STILL NOTHING.. I know it is very hot here and most of the other hens are taking a break.. but good grief.. and yes.. I am sure they are both pullets.. lazy ones.. but pullets none the less.

We also bought a variety from McMurray that are 22 weeks old tomorrow. They include 2 RIR, 2 Delaware, 1 Barred Rock, 2 red "Star" which I think is hatchery speak for sex-link.. and a light brahma. I expected the Brahma to be a late bloomer.. but honestly thought the Red Star and the RIR to have started by this time. Combs are pink to red.. but no eggs.. darn it!

I had a tiny pullet egg about a month ago.. two days in a row.. so was getting excited.. but since then -- nothing.. since I am on summer vacation - I have the luxury of knowing just who is laying.. or more importantly -- who isn't!!

I think I need to go back outside with my collection of chicken recipes and see if that convinces any of them to lay something..

When I checked my coop this morning - and still no eggs (at 20 1/2 weeks), my husband said I don't have LAYERS - I have DE-LAYERS.
I went to the farmers market and bought a dozen eggs. I keep doing that thinking it's the last time I'll have to buy eggs.

I have some Ameraucana pullets that are 20+ weeks and no eggs yet.

On the other hand I had some FBCM's that started around 23 weeks and Silver Ameraucanas
that started laying at around 24 weeks of age
