. I'd take that cook book in SOON and show them yummy chicken recipes and tell them they will be the main ingredient if they do not start laying soon!

my flock started at 10 months !!!!!! 40 weeks!!!!!
i was getting worried then when morning this febuary I was cleaning out the hen house and fount a small clutch of eggs in the corner.

I purposefully picked black Australorps to start my laying flock because I read that they were one of the youngest to start laying of the dual-purpose/heritage breeds. A friend in my poultry club got barred rocks a couple weeks after I got my BAs, and she has been getting very small pullet eggs since her BRs have been 12 weeks old. She is complaining because the eggs she is getting are still very small, but at least she is getting eggs. Mine are now almost 19 weeks old, their combs and wattles turned red weeks ago, but still no eggs!

They even sang the egg song a few times, which made me race to the coop, but they were lying, not laying.
