What am i? 6 month old rooster

Hey guys, long time reader first time poster!

have been raising my free range flock and using this forum as a wealth of information!

just wondering what breed/ mix of breed my rooster is? i hatched him in my incubator from a dozen eggs that came from a free ranging flock on a friends farm. he hatched and started his life as a purely black chick with dark legs until he hit puberty.


he has yellow legs and is a large chicken (ie not a bantam breed)

any ideas on his pedigree (or lack of haha) would be awesome!

Black copper Marans often start out all black and wind up looking like this fellow later. Brown Red can do this also.

The farm he cane from has a lot of retired ex-battery layers, and a rooster that looks exactly like this one. There are other heritage breeds that wonder the paddocks but they all looked vastly different (sussex, and Slw Wyandotte's). His male siblings that hatched were white and brown roosters pure brown roosters.

So I guess he must just be a good looking mix! I have googled and googled to try and work out what he is made up of but i didnt come up with much.

I agree that he has a general Welsummer look to him. The coloring is close, but the body type looks wrong to me.
