What am I?? Am I a roo??

This is an interesting one! She said the chick came from Mount Healthy. They don't have Delawares listed on their website. They have Golden Comets (red sex-link). Then I learned that Red sex-links are created by crossing RIR roosters with Delaware hens. There seems to be a big variation in how the roos can look. On feathersite they have a very delawar-ish roo, take a look...

Also...it was in a "red pullet bin" at the feed store.

Just a possibility! (BUT another possibility is that since they are using Delaware hens to make Red sex-links, then what happens to all those delaware roos?? maybe end up at the feed store in the pullet bin!)

Could be.. Or they end up in dog food

. I apologize for that

. Though seriously i think i remember seeing a thread that unclaimed chicks from hatcheries can end up in feed for chickens, dogs, etc.. There was a thread about the chicken feed where people were arguing "Is it right? is it wrong?".. Search for "Vegetarian feed" im with the half i'd rather them go to something than waste..

And maybe they don't have delaware cockerels, they could buy the delaware hens from other people

(though then they'd have to be tested..)

We have 6 week old hatchery Delawares. 4 are pullets and one is a roo. His comb and wattles are huge and red, have been. I am new to this, but your chicken looks more like our pullets. The markings are similar to a delaware, but I'm sure other breeds have similar markings.

So, I can't say for sure since I'm a novice. We love our Delawares, very sweet and curious!
