What am I dealing with here? Update - Hubby poked!

We have a cat who brings home mice, voles, and the occasional rat from the pasture around our place. He rarely eats any of them, but he loves to bring them into the garage to play with them (before they are dead). The Dachsund on the other hand just kills them the minute he sets eyes on them. I've seen him bark a mouse out of a hiding place behind wood. My DH says they commit "suicide by dachshund" to shut him up.

Now if I can just convince the cat and the dog that the chickens are part of the pack and need protecting...

I use snap traps, but I am getting ready to make one of these. I have decided my rodent problem is too great to just use snap traps.

I have a bucket of bird food in my geerage I use to refill my bird feeders and give the chickens a handful of treats. Every morning there is a mouse inside the bucket. He jumps in at night and can't get out. Every morning I let him out and he runs away lol. Cute little bugger I cant bring myself to kill him. I haven't been out yet but I bet he is sitting there waiting for me to get him out lol.

Believe me, I'm trying to eradicate the darned things! I'm allergic to cats and my dog keeps big critters away, but these little buggers have become a problem in the last couple of months. I thought we were rid of them until yesterday.

I'll tell you what worked for our rat problem when we moved into the houston house after years of it sitting... Five gallon buckets filled 3/4 the way with water, then put enough corn to make it look like it's full of corn... A board over the top for them to climb across before jumping down and viola! We musta dumped 20 rats weekly if not more, they think they can walk on the floating corn but can't.

I thought all you chicken lovers knew theres no need to buy cats or traps for mice get your own Chicken Killer he will eliminate allyour rats and mice for you while being overly abusive to your girls. Check him out worlds best mouser LOL
