What am I doing wrong? What do I need to change?

I call the night time roosting routine the thunder dome. My girls have been together for years and there are still nights they squabble and hair pulling over spots.
Let everyone put themselves to bed they will work it out. The more you intervene the longer it will take for them to figure it out.
The older girls will go in before the young ones and roost up. Then the Littles will learn where the big girls like to roost and won't be taking someone's spot.

Well, last night I had to mess things up all over again. Big thunderstorm was rolling up, so I had to get everybody in early. Thankfully the littles all seemed to know something was up and went right in in one pack. The adults I had to take in one by one. Of course, they then had the menace the littles and chase them around the run. :barnie The littles all took refuge in the coop. Which means there was probably lots of squabbling once the adults went in there. I had to beat a retreat to the house before I could check.

Nice! It will probably be more of the same for a few nights until they figure it out then your days of tucking chickens in will be over! Well…for now…until you get more chickens…
No plans to get babies again for a while. This round has been exhausting! I do have some very specific breeds I would like to get eventually, but I plan to get started pullets, and that won't be for a couple of years.

I gotta say, I’m really grateful for the ease of starting with 6-8 week girls. Mine aren’t cuddly, which is probably related, but I like for animals to maintain their dignity (as long as I can pick them up for health checks)
