I dont know if this is where im suposed to be or not. but i have a question and i havent been able to get an answer anywhere.
I have a hen sitting she has tried to sit for quite a while but my bigger hens kept running her off her eggs and she would give up on them and go to whatever other eggs or gulf balls she could find. so i moved her into the house in a cage with a cardbord box for a nest.
well when she was in the coop in the nesting boxes she wouldent potty on her eggs but now she is pottying on her eggs. what do i do to stop this so the poo wont hurt the babies?
she has taken a licking trying to sit and i dont want to hurt her or the little ones.

can someone please tell me something? give me any ideas they sould be ready to hatch about the 12th of Jan. i had to wash them last night and change her box out because it was so ickey.

Remove her from the cage daily and do not allow her access to the eggs until she has eaten and defecated.

How much space does she have in the box? She probably needs more room to move around. Sourland's advice is good, I'd also give her a pan with some sand, etc if possible. I've noticed my broodies are almost frantic to bathe when the hop off each day.

Those eggs will be fine with her off them for 30 min or so each day.
