I was afraid to bid and figured I would end up spending a bunch of money on a roo I didnt want lol. But I lucked out and got a couple new faces for my flock. All seem healthy too, which is great!

I cant wait to get her calmer and mixed in with my flock.

I think you were right about the game bird part.

We spent yesterday building a separate pen for the mom and chicks, left one square higher up above the door open cause I was going to put wood there. We left for a couple hours yesterday evening and came home to find them all missing from their pen. Luckily their pen was inside the bigger coop, so we found them quietly 'hiding' in a different part of the coop. I am still amazed the little chicks could fly that high. I fixed that hole in the dark last night.

I am contemplating clipping her wings til she settles down and gets used to us.

I have another question about the chicks...

When I first brought them home, at first glance I assumed I had a girl and 2 boys, because 2 of them have redder larger combs.

But I remember reading something on here about boys having 3 rows in their combs and girls having only one. The mother hen has a single comb, and all 3 babies have different combs.

One of the males has the reddish single comb, one has a redder comb with a whole cluster of bumps and the littlest chick has a small yellowish comb, but there is 3 tiny rows. Does this mean I probably got 3 roos and not just 2 like I originally thought?

Could the 3rd one just be a late bloomer? It is lighter in color and seems daintier than the other 2, but I hate to hold onto it if it is more than likely a roo.

Also, the hen hasnt laid an egg since I got her, is this because she has the chicks with her? How long before she will go back to laying?

Combs come in all types, and you should never rely on comb type for determining sex...both males and females can have any type of comb.

She should go back to laying once the chicks are a little older.

My female EE's have two different kind of combs and so do my roo's all sisters and brothers. She is also stressed out and that can hold a chicken back just give her time and she'll get going again. Congrats!

I was just out there 'observing' the chicks and I am still leaning towards the littlest being a girl. In comparison to the other two, her legs are much thinner, body smaller, feathers lighter, and no red comb or wattles.

I will keep her and hope for the best, shes just too cute to give up!

I am glad about the comb issue. I just recently bought a Silkie/EE mix that has a black comb that is small and has 3 rows...so we are hoping that is a girl too.
