I have 2 sets of ducks. One set of mallard ducks and one set of Perkins. Or so I think. This one has me stumped. Both of these ducks hatched a day apart but are colored totally different. And I am confused at to what the darker on can be.

Idk. I hatched it from one of these two pairs. However none of my others look this way. So I am wondering if these that I have are not pure bred mallards and Perkins

Let me make sure I understand this correctly. You have an adult pair of Mallards and an adult pair of Pekin. These ducklings were hatched from the eggs produced by your adult ducks. If you post pictures of your adult ducks we can help confirm breed.

Do you keep the pairs separate? If not than I would guess that the darker duckling is a mix.

I thought ducks were Monogamous. If that isn’t the case then I could have a mix chick. But I didn’t think they would mate with another if their mate was still around.
