Thanks! But what does production red mean? Are they egg layers or meat?

Looks like you have a Production Red.

Production reds are hybred Rhode Island Reds that have been bred to increase egg production. They are great as layers as well for their meat.

how old is it..? to me it loks like you'll be waiting forever for an egg out of that one....

I vote for Production Red. My RIR's are darker in color.

I am estimating that the bird in the picture is about 16 weeks old. The comb is growing out but is still a little pink. I would guess that that you are probably another 3 - 5 weeks before you start seeing eggs.

To my count - they are either just shy of 8 weeks old. Should they start laying around 24 weeks?

I vote Production Red, and to me she looks older than 8 weeks. The pic below is mine at 8 weeks. She started laying around 19 weeks and hasn't skipped a beat!
