One thing to remember is that hatchery birds usually lay more eggs than breeder birds, since hatcheries are in the chick business and more eggs=more chicks=more money. So they breed toward hens laying more eggs...

All the ones I have (albeit I haven't had many) haven't been such great layers. But dinner, on the other hand... perhaps!
