So my chicken abandoned her 9 chicks. So I started to take care of them. They were already a month old so my mom told me to put them outside. They were in a cage at night and in the day time I would let them run around in the yard. One night like at 2 in the morning I hear them screaming and I run out side and the cage was ripped apart and their were only two of them alive. The other seven were in pieces spread around my back and front yard. The animal that killed them was quick and silent. It also took my two guinea pigs in less than a second. I need to know what animal can do that???? Since I live in Puerto Rico people tell me it was a mongoose. Is that possible?? Please help I want to protect my other chickens. They are sleeping inside the house until I find out what did this.
. This predator must have been extremely quick as you said. If I had to choose an animal i would say mongoose. The fact that you live in Peurto Rico really makes that a solid argument. Other than a mongoose it may have been a Fox. Good luck in finding out who killed your chicks!
I am not familiar with puerto rico, but foxs and raccoons are a common problem in America (not sure if they are such a issue down there) but it is very possible that it was a mongoose or a few stray dogs.
