what are my chickens doing

i just got 2 silkies from a factory were they lived in tiny wire cages so now they are new to roosts. Every night when they go into roost, before they go to sleep they stand on the roost and keep trying to take each others spot. they go underneath each other and try to sove the other one off. This goes one for about 5 minutes before they finnaly settle down on the roost.

why do they do this?

I have no idea. My chickens do that too.

I haven't seen any discussion on this, but my hens have similar behavior.

My chickens do this as well. Not on the roost, but in the straw. They're constantly trying to get the "best" spot. Not sure why though. Maybe for protection or warmth?

they need to have the exact same spot the other hen has

I had read somewhere that Silkies don't roost, but maybe yours didn't get the memo!
