What are people thinking these days? Venting time!

It's not the color I object to, it's the marketing to people that will mistreat or abandon the thing. I've seen kids get easter chicks and what happens to them. They are malnourished, dehydrated, squashed, you name it.

Well, if the actual dyeing process doesn't harm the chick in any way, then I feel that our government has no right to tell us that we can't market a product how we want. I dislike people mistreating animals as much as anyone, but I think that it is a bit controlling of a government to tell us how to market a product. I respect everyone elses opinions though, and understand where you're coming from.

Where did that come from? You're joking, I think'.

Correct, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I respect yours as well. I don't necessarily think it would have to be the Government stepping in but maybe more a PITA thing? Or communities stepping in and asking for it to be stopped.

The problem with people concerning these chicks, is that they don't care where the chicks end up. It's money in their pocket, and LOTS of roosters off of their hands.

To them it's a Win/Win situation.

I think it's wrong that people do it, but there have been laws made in some states to keep this from happening.

In OK, Where I live, I haven't seen any of these chicks in a long time. I think there is progress being made, and trying to bring up old YouTube videos to complain about is just starting a ranting conversation.

Everybody is right. It is a bad idea because the chicks are being marketed to and purchased by the wrong people. That said, I would personally LOVE to have some colored chicks and duckings. Especially ducklings. I dunno why but I would. Yes, I know the color doesn't last, but it would be fun while it did. I need some ducks for my pond but I won't get any, dyed or not, until I can figure out how to keep them safe from hungry predators.

You can actually dye your ducks and chickens with food dye and blow dry. There's someone around here that dyed their Silkie pink for a wedding.

I don't know if it's still legal here to dye chicks or not, but I see them being sold every year by individuals on the side of the road.

yes, most people don't want them after the novelty and the color wears off.

Lots of them bring them to me then. Free of charge. Lots (If not all) are Cornish/Rock crosses. I have a really good use for free meat chickens here.

Never dyed a chick myself. Ours sell just fine natural colored.

Most of my fondest memories around 5-6 was going to my grandparents and looking at all of the dyed chicks. They weren't harmed so I don't see a problem with it. I guess if people think that is cruel it is also cruel to trim a dogs fingernails, fur, and wash with flea soap.
