Hello everyone! My local feed store (kahoots) is going to be selling chicks this coming Friday!!! Among the breeds listed were Production Blues, and I'm not entirely sure what they are. Are they good producers of blue eggs or something else? While I've heard of production reds, these are something new to me.

Anyway, I live in the no-mail zone of southern California, and haven't been able to get chicks since Newcastle's broke out because none of the hatcheries will ship to the pet stores (or to me). The owner of Kahoot's has his own jet and is going to fly 800 in from Arizona! Isn't that something? Pretty awesome I think.

I appreciate your feedback on my question in advance, thanks!

I'm confused... quarantine zone means no birds in or out PERIOD.. does it not????!!!!

If they aren't in compliance... report them! (or maybe I will send an inquiry myself ) Protect our right to keep back yard flocks, follow the law. PLEASE! :barnie

Production Blues should be a blue colored bird that lays a good number of brown eggs, likely based on a cross of RIR. They should be pretty birds. Blue is one of my favorite colors of chicken! :love

Thank you for your input! I've looked into this thoroughly, San Diego county is not under quarantine. We are able to buy and move birds without breaking the law.

That's great! Doing your homework and being informed can go a LONG way towards making good choices and protecting us all and our flock. :thumbsup

Another thread that discusses Production Blues and indicates brown egg cross between RIR and blue Australorp... I checked and did not see them on Stromberg's site.

But they do sound like lovely birds! :wee

Thanks, I appreciate it. If so, then I am seriously looking into getting these, as RIR and Australorps (regardless of color) were both breeds I was thinking about buying.
