What are reasons for hatches coming too early?

I am reliably hatching 12-24 hours early, every time. Shipped eggs, eggs from here, no matter.

So this time, I dropped the temp a whole degree, yet still.. the first one is out 24 hours early and his siblings are right behind.

All healthy, all developed, just early.

I was planning on continuing to drop the temp in my bator for the next one... but part of me is scared because of the old adage 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'

anyone have any ideas for me? I reluctantly feel as if this is a mystery that needs to be solved.

Hi Dawn... if the chicks are fine, don't worry about it. But if you have problems with un-absorbed yolk sacs, or other problems, perhaps drop the temps again. Have you double checked your thermometer?

Yup. If your chicks are healthy, then you might just be the most-envied BYCer.

I WISH my hatches were earlier than they are!

Good advice! If they don't have problems and your hatch rates are good, leave well enough alone.

So far everyone hatches pretty cleanly... My hatching journal goes back to the first one, and only occasionally does one not absorb the yolk.
A thermometer recheck is probably in order for sure, I of course use a couple of different ones.

I just had a chick hatch 2 days early!! Imagine my surprise, when I went to add a sponge to up the humidity, and there was a chick looking at me!! But it's HUGE...sometimes it just happens...

Most of mine hatch early. I'm surprised when I have one get to day 21.

I'm all for if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If they're all hatching healthy and well, leave it alone.

Trying to fit the legendary, mythical, one size fits all rules when what you have is working will screw you the up.

Leave it. ::whack:: (Sorry, dog trainer.)
