SO ya what are they and what do they look like? Also, how old do most roos start crowing? I want to know because on my posts, people say roo type feathers. I want to be educated about roos and pullets
Here is a picture naming the parts of chickens. The rooster feathers we all talk about are the hackles (the pointed feathers around the neck) and the saddle feathers (The long pointed feathers behind the wings and before the base of the tail feathers). If I knew how to highlight this picture I could show you easier. Roosters start crowing at different times for each individual rooster. Some as soon as 6 weeks old, and others not until 18 - 20 weeks. When they start, they usually sound like they need to be oiled, very squeaky. Hope this helps you. Jean

some roos never crow they can't crow unless they can fully extend there neck. I had one that took about 1 year to learn
