What are some funny things people "know" about hens?

Just the other day I was told that hens don't lay eggs in the same month they were born. If a chick hatches in May, she won't lay eggs in May for the rest of her life. If you get an older hen and she doesn't lay in August, that's the month she was hatched out.

I didn't know how to respond to her, so I just said something about hens not laying during their molt but I didn't realize they only molt on their birthday.

Some other people have said this one, but I can't help it since I've been told this SO many times!

"Ew, you're eating your chickens' eggs?! Why would you eat a baby chicken?!"

"Don't eat those eggs! They might have salmonella!"

Hello?? I'm not gonna eat them raw. And anyway, free-range chickens have less of a chance of passing salmonella onto their eggs because they don't have any stress and because they aren't caged.
