What are some ways to keep the water clean

I really like the rabbit water bottle idea... I might try that... do you think it would be okay for a baby duckling as well??? I have one lone duckling that hatched and 8 baby chicks in the same brooder...

sure why not as long as his bill can reach the ball and push it in. I just show them how it works. touch it with you finger or gently squeeze the bottle so a drop comes out. chickens love shiney stuff so I know they will, and I use thie same system to water all the quail I have buttons included.

let me know how mr duck does!

I'll try it out tonight as I have an extra rabbit waterer that my dwarf bunny would NOT touch... After 3 days of no drinking I went back to the way the lady I got him from watered him which was in little crocks...

I like the water bottle idea and am going to try it this year with my new chicks.

Here's what I've done the last two years. It has worked great - it's rare to find anything in the water.

In this picture I'm using the larger waterer that I switch to when the chicks get bigger. But, I used the same platform with the smaller chick waterer before that.

I used an upturned pie tin when they were small, they had no problem sitting on it to reach the water but it raised it out of the shavings. I still changed water about 4 times a day until they were ready for the big waterer.

Well I put the water bottle in last night and I was not hopeful but the little duckie was VERY curious about it and even pecked at the bottle thru the cage...

Seems to work fine... they were all around it this morning to get their drinks and were chirping happily.....

Thanks for the idea....
