What Are Squirrels Like?

I have always wondered. Are they annoying? Do they make any noises? I'm from Australia and we don't have them here.

Depends on the squirrel. Greys are probably the noisiest, but I really like them. Most people usually mistake their chatter for the call of a small bird.

You have to watch out one doesn't come flying down at you from up high in a tree

or at least drop a nut down on you from high up in a tree

Squirrels are tasty.

They are cute but they can also cause a lot of damage if they get into your attic or on your electric poles

Damaging for sure. And they will clean out a bird feeder, the little thieving rats. Nothing like using a .22 and pinging a squirrel off a feeder to cook for supper, though...

If you keep your car parked outside beware of squirrels inside the engine. lol

I am the recipient of most of the wildlife centre's squirrel releases and couldn't be happier. Some vanish instantly into the woods, never to be seen again, while others linger for a month or two. They greet me in the morning patiently waiting for their peanuts/apples/sunflower seeds etc. and apart from having entry holes in a few birdhouses enlarged from their chewing, luckily have never had any damage done. Also have a colony of red squirrels that will put the run to the black and grey ones anyday!!
