What are tags?

Sorry, but many people have tags under their online names. I can hit 'edit' and make my own tag- but what is a tag? I tried searching and 100 unrelated things popped up. So I wrote in (just now) 'off-grid' and 'parrot practitioner'... both of which are true. But what does it mean?

Okay, oops. I wasn't sure. I deleted it. I still don't understand what it is exactly, I assume it is something that people who have social media understand. My apologies to that person.

It's a way to.connect with other people who have the same tags. Often people put their interests or breeds of chickens they keep. If for example you have interest in silkies you can click on a silkie tag and find others. It allows you to.pm them to chat.

It's kind of nice to connect that way.

Edit: I added “Off Grid” back in, since I’m pretty much the definition of it. No municipality, no public services — no trash pickup, no mail delivery, no electricity grid, and even our water has to come from rain collection (we don’t have wells or fresh water on the island). Maybe someone else out there can relate.
