I tried the PVC and the bucket/pot tray homemade versions and found that neither one lets laying mash come down smoothly...too much humidity in the air maybe that causes caking. I tried mixing bigger grains that would be heavy enough to move the feed and nothing really worked well until....
I brought out my old galvanized trough-style feeder..you know the kind? It stands up on metal legs that can be folded away? Well, I folded the legs flat, wrapped the trough with welded wire that is just big enough to let a chicken head in but does not allow scratching or flipping of food. Best idea I've had yet! If I fill it up it can feed 33 chickens for 3-4 days at a time, there has been no wasted food and it stays clean. Love, love, love it!
