I don't own chickens YET and I need to know what the general basics on feeding them are. A couple questions:

-What type of store-bought feeds are the best for backyard chickens?

-What fruits and veggies are okay for backyard chickens to eat?

-What foods are NOT okay for backyard chickens to eat? (Like chocolate for dogs)

Thanks for your help!

Chickens will eat anything that does not eat them first.

Personally I feed all my birds, chickens, quail, guineas, and hopefully ducks soon, Purina Sunfresh Flock Raiser. You can feed it to everybody. Just add oystershell for layers if they want it.

Welcome first of all...I give my chickens everything, and I mean everything with the exceptions of onions....I throw my scraps to them for extra protein and treats. I keep them on starter/grower until they are between 16-18 weeks of age and then switch them over to laying pellets...you could use the crumbles it's just that my chickens waste most of that...but other than that....everything.
