what are the main factors that makes a hen start to set

very mild winter here in NC and my hens never quit laying and i want some chicks soon. to my knowledge old english game bantams are broody. what can i do

Our hens rarely go broody, as we don't normally keep the broody type. But, when does happen, it is merely her own hormones and desires. Her instincts drive her behavior and there's is little one can do about those, quite honestly.

I don't think there are specific factors that cause a hen to go broody.

I added a golf ball a day for a week and my cochin went broody on my encouragement No kidding! She has fourteen eggs she's incubating right now. I'm very excited for my first hatch! No incubator needed
