What are the symptoms of bird flu in chickens?

Avian influenza doesn't generally show symptom until it's too late. Your chickens may become lethargic (with a moderate strain), they'll eat a lot less and egg production will slow, they will have a hard time breathing, and they might be a little ruffled looking. Pretty much like how we are with the flu. If it is a severe case of bird flu, like the ones taking out entire factory houses, then they will be less likely to show symptoms because it acts so quickly and will die in a day or two. I really hope this helps and that your girls are okay.

If you think your chickens have the virus, you're supposed to contact your local agriculture department or the USDA. Again, I really hope your girls are okay. My biggest fear has been my girls getting the flu because their is no cure for it. Mild strains can pass unnoticed, but severe ones, like H1N5, will kill. Also check your bird for any abnormal swelling and discharge from the face (essentially a runny nose).

Jackalope Vigil, thank you very much for the information. My 6 girls are healthy. I just wanted to know what to look our for. Also, we are thinking about getting more; luv having them!
