What are the white specks on my eggs?

Occasionally my eggs have white speckles on the shell (which is peachy-brown) - the white specks aren't raised so it seems like it's part of the shell rather than some substance on the shell. Know what it is? Anything to be concerned about?

I get this too, always from the same hen. I assume it's an idiosyncrasy in her ink sprayer. I don't get the raised bumps unless a hen has had to strain for an especially large egg. All of this is very interesting to this newb.

I have seen what you are talking about many times. Sometimes they even have darker spots. It's nothing to worry about. Sometimes if you collect the egg immediately after it is laid, you can actually rub some of the color right off the shell! It's pretty cool!
