I use those same waterers just put it on a chunk of wood or a brick, your plate might work upside down. When shavings get all around the base and then into the waterer it wicks the water out. I hatched (78) just under 3 wks ago

Also do Not use the fine shavings, only the flake, the fine can cause respiratory problems.

I use 'mini flakes' which have virtually no dust in them. Dust or cedar is what causes respiratory problems.
