Is it possible that they are anything we would actually want to breed? Are they just mutts?

Is mine actually a girl?

If you got it at the feed store they are most likely Golden Comets or some other "production" hybrid. You would not want to breed them but they will be good layers.

Yours is girl,Your friends is a boy. After I saw the boy I can say they are not real Sex Link, they are mixes with Sex Link blood. Edited to ask who get $1 ?

WOW..... that is so good to know.

They both came from Ideal Hatchery in a straight run purchase for the feed store. I do not think that they would put fuzzy mutts in but maybe hybrids.. You never know.

If these really did originate at Ideal, i think i must have to assume they're gold sex-links? Is a gold sex-link basically the same as a golden comet?

That would go along with my non-barred-rock, probably maybe black sex-link that also supposedly came from ideal.

Thanks all for your help.

I'm glad mine turned out to be a girl so i'll get a good layer out of her.

I am by far no expert. If they are hybrids i would guess Gold Sexlinks, only due to the white feathering. I have come across a post or two where some people have their Gold/Red/Brown(and anywhere in between) Sexlink males come out colored like the females, so I assume that it happens. If not a Sexlink than maybe it is some other type of hybrid (doubt but could be pure). Hatchery chicks don't always end up looking like they are supposed to, but make a great backyard flock. If your friends little roo was not so beat up, then it would help to determine what they could be. His tail should be white or mostly that of if he is a Sexlink. If it is greenish (or black/blue) then you could have something different. Ideal does state on some breeds that they created them, so they could be a project bird as well. That is my two cents anyways.
